No, the milk should not be diluted to ensure that your child gets the maximum nutrients from the milk. It is more advisable to give extra water in between feeding times. |
 |
It is not necessary to make this change at precisely 12 months of age. Growing up milk is sometimes introduced earlier - and sometimes later - than 12 months of age. It very much depends on the child, his needs, circumstances and, of course, your paediatrician's advice.

UHT is a process that uses temperatures not lower than 135°C for at least 2 seconds to kill all bacteria in milk. The milk is then packed in an enclosed, sterilised environment. It can be kept for 10 months at room temperature if the pack is unopened.
Pasteurised milk is processed at temperatures not lower than 73°C for at least 15 seconds, then immediately reduced to 4°C and maintained at that temperature until consumed. It kills only the pathogenic bacteria (bacteria that make you sick). Because of this, pasteurised milk has to be kept refrigerated all the time (even if unopened) and its shelf life is short (4 weeks).
Sterilised milk is treated with a temperature of not lower than 100°C heating for a length of time. Since it is packaged in bottles, additional treatment of the bottles is required to ensure the sterile condition of the product. As a result, the sterilised milk can be kept for 8 months (if unopened) at room temperature.
All liquid milk is equally good and delivers the same nutrients that fulfil growth requirements. Your choice very much depends on circumstances such as convenience, preference in taste or storage choices that you prefer.

Although preparation in cold water does no harm to the milk formula, it is advisable to follow the instructions for use, i.e. preparation with warm water. When the formula is prepared with cold water, the powder might not be properly dissolved. |

Your child can still continue with DL 456, as it is a good practice to ensure that your child has the habit of drinking milk. Milk is no longer being served as the main nutrient source / food for your child at his age now because he is required to take variety of solid foods. Milk is an important complementary food for him to supply him the crucial nutrients which he may not have sufficient intake from his daily diet. It is advisable that your child drinks 2 – 3 glasses of DL 456 every day. There isn’t any age limit for taking DL 456. Otherwise, you also can offer him Dutch Lady UHT Milk. |

Please continue feeding your baby with his follow-up formula and whatever solid / semi-solid foods that you are supposed to feed him. There are slight differences in terms of nutritional profile of both milk powders (follow-up formula & DL 123). Follow-up formula is specially formulated for babies aged between 6 – 18 months (Dutch Lady Langkah 2). Therefore, it is suitable for your 10-month-old baby. If you would like to give him support our DL 123, please introduce it to your child when he turns to 1 year old. |
