Creative activities for the family

A family who plays together stays together too. The most important things parents can give to their kids are love and attention. There’s no need to spend money on expensive toys. All you need are simple things that you can find in the house and a little imagination. Try to use recyclable materials to inculcate the habit of recycling.

Milky toys
Don’t throw away those milk carton boxes or bottles when your kids have finished drinking Dutch Lady milk. For the carton box, cut out square or rectangle holes to form the doors and windows. For the bottles, they can be turned into bowling pins – all your kids need to do is get a ball and bowl them over!

DIY home
Got lots of cardboard boxes lining up for the recycling centre? Before you do so, convert one into a five-foot tall house with cutout windows and a door. Then get your children to take turns to be the milkman and leave a bottle of Dutch Lady milk at the door! What a great way to stimulate their imagination!

Milk can drums
Dutch Lady 123 and 456 cans make perfect drums. To create different sounds and pitches, give them plastic or enamel containers with different sizes. Now you’ve got an all-kids band in your home!

Furniture tent
Just pick two chairs and put them about 2 metres apart from each other. Then take a blanket and drape it over the chairs to form a tent. To bring the camping scene to life, get some props like enamel cups, plastic plates, spoons and forks, lamp, and torchlight.

Playing shop
Children often enjoy pretend play like setting up a coffee shop. Simple, just open your kitchen cupboards and take out Dutch Lady beverages – milk and yoghurt. You can act as the customer and order a drink or two. When your ‘order’ arrives, give your child money, like how a real customer would at the real coffee shop. Alternate the roles with your kid so that he gets to experience different situations.
