Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it is the first meal after 8 to 12 hours of sleep and fasting. Depriving our body of nutrients for as long as 12 hours means our brain lacks energy and our metabolism needs food to kick-start into action. In short, the nutrients you consume for breakfast have a big job to do, so it is important to consume a sufficient amount. In general, breakfast should provide 20 to 25% of our daily nutrient intake and a balance of macro and micronutrients, including carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals such as calcium which is lacking in most Malaysian’s diet.
